Cells Week #2

This week we get to go into the lab to observe cells. PLEASE make sure if at all possible, all students are in attendance!

This week's proposed schedule:

2/1 Learn to draw cells under a microscope for lab, get ready for microscope lab
2/2 Lesson 1-3 about the levels of organization, take notes, Complete DR
2/3 Microscope lab!!!
2/4 correct 1-2 DR, levels of organization notes in journal, finish DR, specialized cells
2/5 Circulatory system grade 1-3 DR, Extra Credit due today!!!

***Test on Cells will be on 2/12. There is a practice test at www.frisci7.utips.washk12.org
Students who do not pass will be relearning and retaking the test on 2/16 & 2/17. Those who pass the first time will get to do some fun science enrichment stuff to celebrate their achievement on those two days!!!

Important upcoming dates for the term
2/5 Extra Credit due
2/12 Late work due
2/19 End of the term!!!

More about the Earth

Here is what we have coming up. Next week we will be having our test on Earth's Interior.

Students will be required to do an Earth model project at home worth 50 points (students will bring home a rubric), bring in a "dirt bottle" to show layering (instructions follow) and a tennis ball for an activity.

Due dates for these things:
1/12 Dirt Bottle
1/14 Tennis Ball
1/20 Earth Model due

Class Schedule (please note that topics are subject to change)
1/11 Finish Class Activity; Forces that Shape the Earth ***** Dirt Bottle Due tomorrow
1/12 Dirt bottle due; Sort it Out notes; Correct Restless Crust DR; Prep Earth's Density Lab
1/13 Earth's Density Lab; **** Tennis balls due tomorrow!!!
1/14 Theory of Plate Tectonics pg 108-111; DR; begin tennis ball activity
1/15 Grade tennis balls; There is no place like Earth

1/18 No School
1/19 Grade Plate Tectonics DR; Review for Test
1/20 Test on Earth's Interior
1/21 Reteach/Enrich
1/22 Reteach/Enrich

Instructions for dirt bottle: get a empty drink bottle with a screw on lid. Fill approximately 1/2 the way full with dirt and small rocks. The bigger the variation, the better this activity works. Fill approximately 3/4 full of water and tightly screw cap on. Bring to class to observe what happens.

Happy New Year!!!

We are half way through the school year, can you believe it??? We are now begining a new unit on Earth's interior layers. The key concepts for this unit are: Earth's layers are ordered according to their density, how particles are sorted by size AND density and basics of plate techtonics.

1/4 No School
1/5 Begin Earth's interior- Red book read pages 96-102; Earth's layers notes, begin DR if time
1/6 finish notes and DR; Digging through the Earth video (about 10 min)
1/7 Restless Crust pg 104-107, Denser you are notes; DR
1/8 BN Earth's Crust; Correct Earth's interior DR, Begin class activity for Earth's interior.

1/11 Finish Class Activity; Forces that Shape the Earth ***** Dirt Bottle Due tomorrow
